Thetford's ladies won through to the second round of the Gillieson Cup, the county inter-club foursomes knock-out competition, with an exciting 2-1 win at home to Dereham on Sunday.
At the 11th hour top player Shelly Pleasance had to withdraw due to injury and Jan Bone stepped in to team up with Jess Dixon. They made a very strong pairing to win the top match by a comfortable 5 & 4 margin.
The second match went to Dereham by 4 & 3 to level matters and leave everything depending on the final match involving Sue Pitcher and Janice Fossey for Thetford. The match was close and the home pair worked hard to lead by two holes coming off the 16th green. At the 17th Thetford's drive found bushes and resulted in a penalty drop. However, after playing onto the fairway and fine wood shot found the green and two putts proved to be enough to halve the hole in six and secure overall victory.
Thetford go through to the second round on Sunday July 2 when they are at home to Richmond Park or The Links.
