Latest results at Thetford GC

There was a taste of Spring at Thetford GC on Thursday with mild weather and some sunshine for the annual Spring Open. A total of 72 players representing 37 different Clubs took part, many appreciating the comparatively dry conditions after such a wet winter.
Two-handicap Nick Elsom (Maylands) partnered Clacton's John Moore (five) to win with a better-ball score of 44pts. They had a very tidy card with a front nine showing eight pars and a bogey at the seventh, while birdies at the 10th, 13th, 15th and 16th brightened their back nine. They also won two of the nearest-the-pin prizes, Nick at the 1st and John at the 16th.
They returned to Essex with a special prize of dinner for two at The Shard in London.
Stephen Large and Paul Dunning, from Barnham Broom, took the second prize of a medieval banquet for two with a score of 41pts. Three pairs came in with 40pts and Edward Griffiths & Tom Everett (Stoke-by-Nayland) pipped Jerry Callow & Glenn Sibley (Colne Valley) on countback for third place. Bill Sawings (Maylands) and Tony Noakes (Hainault Forest) were the unfortunate pair to miss out on a prize in fifth place.

Matt West won the John Fison Cup with a nett 70 off a handicap of five at Thetford GC. A birdie at the eighth helped him to complete the front nine in 40 and then he had birdies at the 11th, 14th and 16th. A bogey five at the last left him with a gross 75 - and a one-stroke win.
Wayne Prigg (14) finished second with 71, beating Barry Allen (13) on countback.
