Ian's card shows 15 pars

Ian Ramsay was in very consistent form to win the Sidgwick Cup.
The nine-handicapper had 15 pars on Sunday and although he had started with a bogey-four at the 1st and had double-bogeys at the 5th and 11th holes, his nett score of 68 was enough to win on countback.
James Killa was the unfortunate runner-up with 82-14-68 followed by Dean Scott with 74-5-69.
Other scores: Daryl Breen 75-5-70, Mike Horley 77-7-70, Daniel Franklin 85-14-71, Josh Cole 91-20-71, Mark Lingard 82-11-71, Gary Scott 80-8-72, David Fawcett 83-11-72, Martin Lash 90-18-72, John Ward 82-10-72, Neil Elers 82-10-72, Andy Vassallo 89-17-72, Paul Hensby 87-14-73, Derek Kneebone 88-15-73, Andy Beard 81-8-73, Tiom McAlinden 86-13-73, Toby Edwards 85-12-73.
The top eight gross scores qualify for a scratch knock-out competition for the Cowan & Oliver Cup, and the first round draw is: Dean Scott v Andy Beard, Matt West v Mike Horley, Ian Ramsay v Ross Sanford, Ray Hamilton v Daryl Breen.
Club Champion Robert Setchell won the Midweek Medal with 71-4-67. He had an eagle at the 6th to offset four bogeys on the front nine, and then played the back nine in three under par thanks to birdies at the 13th, 14th and 17th holes.
Other scores: Andy Beard 78-9-69, Mark Lingard 81-12-69, Steve McIlroy 92-22-70, Gareth Mills 76-4-72, Matt Harben 77-5-72, Robert Bentley 86-14-72, Toby Edwards 84-12-72, James Tyler 74-1-73, Maurice Anderson 84-11-73, Arron Gaskell 89-15-74, James Camilleri 82-7-75, Peter Croker 85-9-76, Jon Olpin 97-21-76, Chris White 84-8-76.
Thetford ladies recorded two fine away wins in the NLCGA Inter-Club League. The 1st team won 5-2 away to Eaton with wins from Jess Dixon, Sue Pitcher, Janice Fossey, Wendy Puttock and Rosemary Bloom, and the 2nd team won 4-3 away to Dunston Hall with wins from Gill Welham, Anne Bayes, Vicki Smith and Vera Squirrell.
Thetford GC House Manager celebrated his 65th birthday in style by dressing up as Papa Smurf for an impromptu competition on Friday. His grandchildren and playing partners have given Phil Beer the nickname for a suggested similarity with the cartoon character - do you agree?

Thetford GC greenkeeper David Ball had a weekend to remember when he joined the greenstaff at Wentworth for the PGA Championship. David helped prepare the course prior to play and was also in action raking bunkers during the competition, which attracted a very large crowd.
