Phil's perfect day

Coronation Cup winners Phil Beer and Nolan Guthrie

The weather was perfect, the course was in great condition, the catering was superb - and host Phil Beer retained the Coronation Cup. It could not have gone a lot better for our House Manager when he held the National Stewards' Association Chairman's Day at Thetford on Monday June 11. The stewards association was formed in 1912 - the same year as TGC - and Phil was honoured to be elected as national chairman for 2018.

There were 50+ participants from all over the country, including visitors from as far away as Sunderland and the Midlands as well as an encouraging number from East Anglia. They played 13 holes of greensomes in the morning followed by a better-ball Stableford in the afternoon. Phil partnered TGC member Nolan Guthrie to take the top prize with 38pts. A number of other TGC members took part, including Manager Malcolm Grubb, Captain Bob Pearson and Vice-Captain Mike Horley. Players from the host club dominated the presentations - Mike Horley, Ray Hamilton and Trevor Wignall won prizes for twos and nearest the pins, and apart from their overall success, Phil and Mr G won the morning greensomes - and both won prizes in the raffle!
