Winners Jeff Waterson and Graham Vandervord alongside Senior Captain John Drinkhill
It was a glorious day for John Drinkhill’s Senior Captain’s Open with a field of 35 pairs from all over the region. There was a touch of Autumn in the air when play began with dew on the ground but the sun came out to shine on the day. Scores were close with six pairs returning 38pts and seven scoring 39. It took 40 to be in the prizes, however, and the winners came in with 43. Graham Vandervord & Jeff Waterson of Stoke-by-Nayland pipped Robert Page & Derrick Batch of Orsett on countback. Third place went to James Robertson & David Inglis (Spalding) with 40, beating Antony Cowan & Trevor Cave of Eaton on countback.
The prize for the best score from a Thetford pairing went to Nick Pallister and partner David Rham from Ely City with 39pts, beating Trevor Wignall and his partner Bob Fryer from Diss on countback. The nearest the pin prizes went to Bob Fryer (Diss) at the 1st, Alan Hitchborn (Thetford) at the 3rd, Tony Cowan (Eaton) at the 11th and Paul Kerry (Sprowston Manor) at the 16th.
