Jason storms to trophy win with second-round 73

Jason Huggins carried off the scratch and handicap prizes when the Steve Juster Cup was held over the weekend.

The competition is a 36-hole strokeplay event with the top 30 scores on Saturday qualifying for the final round on Sunday. Four-handicap Jason returned a 78 on Saturday, two behind the overnight leader Jake Barker. Jason's excellent second round of 73-4-69 pushed him well clear of his rivals to win by five strokes with a gross total of 151. He also won the handicap prize with 143. If trophies are won over the final nine holes Jason was a worthy winner - he played the last nine in level par with birdies at the 11th, 13th and 17th holes.

Matt Harben was runner-up in both competitions with a total of 156 off a handicap of six, which gave him a nett total of 144 which left him one stroke shy of Jason's tally.

Other scratch scores: 159 - Gareth Mills (82-77); 162 Matt Wabe (81-81) and Jake Barker (76-86); 164 Phil Beer (84-80); 165 Ian Ramsay (85-80); 168 Ray Hamilton (86-82); 170 Richard Alger (86-84), John Ward (86-84) and Andrew Beard (81-89).
