First TGC trophy for Chris

The first competitions since Lockdown was the 36-hole Steve Juster Cup which gave us an exciting return to competitive action. Chris Robson has joined us from Feltwell and brought a handicap of plus-one with him. He lived up to his reputation with an excellent one-under-par round of gross 71 in the first round on Saturday - but for Chris that just represented a level par return on handicap.

Dan Smailes, another recent arrival at the Club, was just two behind while Matt Wabe and David Clarke had 74s. Next came Andy Cunningham and Jake Barker (75s), Owen Mills and Matt West (77s) and Richard Alger (78). The handicap leaderboard showed Clarke (69), Wabe and Barker (70) and then Matt West (77-6-71) and David Sutton (82-11-71).

Scores were generally higher on Sunday - perhaps a lack of match practice and stamina showed - and Robson stayed in front with a 75 for a 36-hole total of 146. Wabe finished second with 77 - and was also the runner-up on handicap, his total of 143 being two behind West, who was very consistent with a nett 70 for 141.

Graham Sloan had the best nett score on Sunday with 77-10-67 to take third place in the handicap competition.

Final gross scores: 146 Chris Robson (+1) 71-75; 151 Matt Wabe (4) 74-77; 153 Matt West (6) 77-76; 155 Dean Scott (4) 83-72 and Andy Cunningham (2) 75-80; 156 Steve Duffety (4) 80-76 and David Clarke (5) 74-82; 157 Roger Nicholson (4) 80-77 and Owen Mills (1) 77-80; 158 Dan Smailes (1) 73-85; 159 Jack Nicholson (4) 82-77; 162 David Hudson (7) 83-79; 163 Lewis Whiting (2) 84-79; 164 Graham Sloan (10) 87-77 and Richard Alger (5) 78-86.

The first ladies competition since Lockdown was the Business Ladies Trophy on Saturday when Chris Walker pipped Tiff Mills on countback. Both scored 37pts, Chris off a handicap of 35 and Tiff off 1. Other scores: 32 Justine Twogood (28); 30 Jane Herrington (14); 29 Laura Todd (6); 27 Kath Malvern (6).

You are reminded that several knock-out competitions have re-opened and will be played over the remainder of the year.

The Treetops Trophy is the men's scratch matchplay knock-out and the Anniversary Cup is an eclectic for men aged 55 or over. Both have online entries or you can sign up in the pro shop before Sunday June 28. That is also the closing date for entering Keiths Coasters, which is the mixed matchplay knock-out competition. And the Club Summer Mixed Greensomes will be played on June 28. Again, you can enter online or give the pro shop a call.

From next Monday we will reduce the interval between tee bookings to 10 minutes. This allows an additional four-ball to play each hour, giving 12 more groups that chance over the day when bookings can be made from 7am to 7pm. When bookings open tonight at 8pm for next Monday you will need to make your bookings on the Thetford 10 course - NOT the C19 Temp course you have got used to.

Another couple of reminders - all tee bookings must be in advance and with names given; there is no play before 7am or off the first tee after 7pm; and member's guests are only allowed after 1pm. Currently we are not opening tee times to visitors. As always we will monitor the situation closely to see how tee bookings are affected.
